The Importance of Cow

“COW” worshipped as Kamadhenu by Hindus, symbolizes prosperity and wealth. People worship Goddess Lakshmi in the form of a cow. Cow is no doubt a Mother aptly referred as “GOMATHA” – GO means COW, MATHA means MOTHER as she nurtures so many lives. A human mother nurtures only her infant whereas Gomatha , irrespective of classifications nurtures not only her calf but all the living beings in the earth. She can also be referred too has JAGAN MATHA (Mother of Universe) because such is her generosity . Is it not the duty of we humans to protect our mother? Of Course, it is our primary duty to protect and nurture them.

The milk of a cow is believed to promote sattvic “purifying” qualities. The ghee (clarified butter) from the milk of a cow is used in ceremonies and in preparing religious food. Cow dung is used as fertilizer, as a fuel and as a disinfectant in homes. Modern science acknowledges that the smoke from cow dung is a powerful disinfectant and an anti-pollutant. Its urine is also used for religious rituals as well as medicinal purposes. The supreme purificatory material, panchagavya, was a mixture of five products of the cow, namely milk, curd, ghee, urine and dung. There is nothing that is more sacred or sanctifying than cows.These kind animals serves mankind in many forms and ways right from its birth till its end.

The punya (blessing) of “GO SAMRAKSHANA” is carried to about seven generations . It is highlighted in VEDAS and SCRIPTURAL LORES to protect cows.

Our civilization values great ones in the form of Mother as India, our Bharat is referred to as Mother , Cow the Mother, Veda the Mother, Sacred Rivers the Mother, Language the Mother and so on. In such a spirited, sanctified land is it wise to slaughter a mother (cow) and eat her flesh in the lap of the mother (India) itself?. Mother cow is extracted all through her life in the form of milk, urine, dung (which is all useful for the mankind) hearts pain to note that when she becomes dry and no longer productive, she is sold to a slaughter house. An animal which comes to earth is used only to serve the mankind and sent for its last breathe by the unkind man. Saving Lives should be the nature of mankind not slaying lives.
